Uniguest Helps ‘Top Performing’ College Meet FELTAG Recommendation.
Staff are now creating content and using Uniguest to upload it to course-specific Scheduled Online Learning and Assessment (SOLA) packs. Having the system has made the whole process much easier and its use continues to increase, particularly on mobile devices. What truly sets the Uniguest technology apart is the ability to create personalized experiences for each guest group. Whether it’s showcasing a bride and groom’s wedding photos or incorporating a company’s logo into the event signage, the resort has embraced this feature to add a unique, meaningful touch to every event. Guests are thrilled by the thoughtful integration, which makes their time at the resort even more memorable.

Embracing FELTAG recommendations
Kirklees College has been quick to embrace blended learning, and has found Uniguest to be a valuable component in their strategy to deliver 10% of Level 2 and 3 courses online in line with FELTAG recommendations. Information Learning Technology & Web Manager, Neil Spaxman, explains: “We introduced blended learning a year ago. Before that, staff were using Uniguest to upload content to our Moodle VLE, but over the last 12 months applications have evolved and usage has increased.Sharing events with students and the public
Having attracted high profile speakers to the college to mark Global Enterprise Week in 2014, the college was keen to give as many students as possible the opportunity to take part. Running alongside a Dragons’ Den style competition were motivational video messages from Huddersfield Town owner and successful entrepreneur Dean Hoyle and Educating Yorkshire teacher Michael Steer. Representatives from Santander, NatWest and Lloyds Banking Group, as well as a number of local business owners and entrepreneurs, also gave talks on various aspects of business during the week. The college has used the system to stream other events, too, including an awards ceremony held at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium, which was broadcast to students as well as members of the public. Thanks to Uniguest, we were able to live stream events via the VLE to ensure all students could get involved. Talks were shown on interactive whiteboards across both campuses, which gave the event far greater reach than we could otherwise have offered. It was a huge success.”

Creative digital signage applications
Neil says Kirklees College has also embraced the digital signage capabilities that the platform affords. “We pull in bus timetable feeds, which are displayed on digital signs on campus to help students plan their journeys, and we also use the signage to link to our ‘My PC’ system, which highlights PCs that are available for student use.Customising the user interface
Uniguest is so much a part of life at Kirklees College that they’ve named it ‘KCTV’, which is how it has become known around the campuses by staff and students. More recently, the new theming, branding and customisation tools available in Uniguest v6 have enabled the college to give KCTV its own unique look and feel, in line with college branding. What next for KCTV?
Neil is planning a refresher training session at an upcoming staff day, where he’ll introduce the new Uniguest interface as well as running a series of tutorials to enable staff to make the most of the platform.Uniguest makes sharing video content so much easier, it’s easy for staff to pick up a mobile phone, create content, upload it to Uniguest and embed it into the VLE and SOLA packs. The system is very easy to use, and the IT department is receiving far fewer support calls. It’s certainly helping us retain our position at the forefront of blended learning and our reputation as a forward looking, innovative institution.
