This week, the Touchtown team had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Each year, the Food Bank delivers 26.5 million pounds of food to 360,000 individuals in southwestern Pennsylvania, including a large number of seniors. Over 5 million seniors face hunger every day in the United States. “Seniors face a number of unique medical and mobility challenges that put them at a greater risk of hunger,” according to Feeding America. By partnering with organizations like Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, we strive to better the lives of seniors everywhere in every way we can.

The Food Bank participates in a monthly Senior Box Program. This program, in conjunction with the USDA Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP),  is dedicated to providing food assistance to low-income seniors. Each month, the Food Bank distributes a free box of healthy, nonperishable foods (including fruits, vegetables, canned meats, milk, peanut butter, and more) to 6,402 seniors in the southwestern Pennsylvania area.

This week, our team at Touchtown packed, and loaded 1,760 boxes of food for these seniors, helping to deliver health, wellness, and a big smile! We had a blast getting to know Greater Pittsburgh Community Bank’s other volunteers and staff, and were able to further serve the seniors to whom we devote our work every day.
